About the Photographer...
Dawna Elsasser has spent a great deal of her life on the Canadian prairies before settling near Vernon, British Columbia in the spring of 2005. With rural roots, she has always been very close to nature, so becoming a Nature Photographer was a natural progression in her life.
Prior to pursuing Nature Photography as a full time venture, Dawna was an Executive Director at a Crisis Centre in NorthEast Saskatchewan, with a part time photography business. While it appears to be a drastic departure from her previous work and Psychology education, Dawna feels strongly that there is a deep connection between caring for people in need and documenting the beauty of the natural world. 'It's all connected on a broader level - if we treat people with caring and respect, we care about the world, our environment and our treasures in the natural world'. Its all about trying to make the world a better place!
While still relatively new to full-time professional nature photography, hard work and persistent dedication is resulting in a growing business and an expanding file of nature and wildlife images from across North America.
Dawna and her husband/business partner, Tom, find the incredible wildlife and scenery that North America has to offer, very exhilarating. Sharing the resulting images is truly an opportunity to bring nature and wildlife closer to people's hearts and homes.
It is always hoped that greater numbers of people will work toward preserving our precious natural areas and gain a greater respect and appreciation for wildlife.
Equipment...
Many people seem to be very curious about equipment photographers use. While equipment alone does not ensure quality photographs, some basic equipment is essential to ensure one's hard work in the field pays off in terms of 'getting the shot'. Skill in utilizing one's camera is essential, as is timing, vision, creativity and dedication, and knowing well the species or habitat you are photographing. That being said, here is a list of equipment that best suits my own needs:
